A Conservative look at today’s top political news…
“Anti-abortion senator to speak to Democrats”
http://news.yahoo.com/story//ap/democratic_convention_casey
The Democrats continue to move towards the center; now they are letting anti-abortion Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) serve as a featured speaker in at their upcoming convention. This is in stark contast to the 1992 convention, where Casey’s dad, then Pennsylvania’s governor was not allowed a featured spot because of his anti-abortion stance.
The question is, of course, whether this is a legitimate move to the center or just political pandering to moderates in an election year. I have often said that the Democrats are so out of touch with the maintsream on issues such as abortion that it was costing them elections (particularly 2004). I believe it will cost them this election, too, but, with these moves to the center, maybe they are smarter than I have given them credit for.

“US plans aid to Georgia as Russia rolls into city”

Its no surprise that Russia is not staying true to their word. The good news in this article is that President Bush is sending Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to deal with the issue. I have long been a fan of Secretary Rice (in fact, I wish she were the GOP presidential nominee right now), so I have no doubt this issue is well on its way to being resolved.
