A Conservative look at today’s top political news…

AP Exclusive: Obama policy book coming out Sept. 9

That should be short.

The new release was assembled over the past few weeks and is not part of the senator’s current deal with Crown, which calls for him to write two more books, including a children’s book.

Since those who fork out $13.95 for his policy book will all be liberals, I wonder if this would satisfy the “children’s book” part of his deal with Crown?

Clinton to forfeit $13 mil loan, unless…”

I thought “The One” was going to pay off her debt for her; I guess not!  That seems like more reason for the Clintons to cause problems in Denver.  This convention could really get interesting!

McCain Is Right to ‘Go Negative’ — But Needs Positive

I have said it here before, but I will say it again.  I don’t like the fact that McCain has had to ‘go negative’, but I really don’t think he has gone that far negative.  As Mort Kondracke says,

The fact is that Obama’s fitness to be chief executive and commander in chief is probably the major question in the minds of swing voters — and McCain has every right to reinforce their doubts.

Obama’s youth, inexperience, judgment, values and consistency are all legitimate targets for Republicans, and, obviously, so are his policies.

I am just glad to see him fighting…

Russia seizes Georgia base, opens second front

I don’t know a whole lot about the Caucasus and Russian politics, but I do have one question about this whole thing: Where is the United Nations?  I haven’t heard one peep out of them, but I am sure that Putin is just worried to death about what they might do say.

7 worrisome signs for Obama

A good article that comes pretty close to summing up where I am about the outcome of this election.  I think McCain will win because of some glaring problems with Obama, some of which are outlined in this article:

1. Race… How much does his race factor into tightening contests in Missouri, Wisconsin, Florida, Minnesota and Ohio? Nobody knows — and that’s the problem.

Good question… I don’t know the answer.

2. Obama’s strength in Virginia may be overhyped.

3. Michigan’s in play for McCain.

I have written about this already here.

4. Bad times could be good for McCain… The typical political calculus —that bad economic times will deliver the White House to Democrats — may not hold if people start viewing the downturn as, essentially, a national security crisis that can’t be entrusted to a novice.

5. Where have you gone, Ross Perot? Bill Clinton, the lone two-term Democratic president since FDR, wouldn’t have been elected if independent Ross Perot hadn’t siphoned 19 percent of the vote in 1992. Former Georgia Rep. Bob Barr, staging an indie bid from McCain’s right, has little cash and doesn’t seem to be a factor in competitive states.

6. …the Democrats’ trail to the White House has been remarkably narrow since 1960, accommodating only Southern whites with border-state strength: Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. (Add Al Gore if you’re counting the popular vote.)

7. Americans may want divided government. Some Democratic operatives think a possible landslide for their party in congressional races could backfire on Obama.
