The Sunday Conservative - 08/03/2008
A Conservative look at the Sunday editorial page:
In “McCain, Obama, and the Dreaded Flip-Flop,” Chris Satullo of The Philadelphia Inquirer states that a centrist is
Someone who prefers fruitful compromise to endless argument, who sees how illogic riddles the doctrinaire stances of left and right. Someone who doesn’t just split the difference, but plucks ideas that make sense from both sides, then mixes in fresh insights to create something new.
He then says that the “alternative media” (bloggers) have made being a centrist a bad thing and calls that opinion goofy, crazy, and illogical. While I won’t argue that sometimes it takes compromise to move an organization, a family, or, yes, a country forward, most of the political debate is going to occur at the edges. If those of us on the fringe (on both sides) aren’t there calling the politicians into account for “running to the center,” then there will be no more right and left and center. At that point, we will all be mindless centrists who don’t evaluate candidates and elected officials decisions and stances, allowing them to define what is the center and, therefore, sensible. There is a nation of people like that today; tune in to the Olympics next week if you want to see it…

In “Race a factor in Campaign,” Cynthia Tucker blames John McCain for playing the dreaded race card because Barack Obama said so. I’m not kidding, I read it three times to makes sure that’s what she said. She even admits that she is the problem by writing
Some of you will claim that racism remains alive and well because I and my fellow race-card-playing pundits won’t let it go.
Hey, she said it, and, for once, she’s right…

The most disturbing trend that I see continuing in today’s paper is that Barack Obama is completely in control of the agenda of this election. Even Conservative George Will is talking about Obama’s trip heard ’round the world. The McCain camp has got to do something to get some of the spotlight away from this guy…
